What's New at the Alvin Opry

From the stage of the Alvin Opry...

It was so good to see BESS BOONE back with us. She has been sidelined due to surgery on her right knee. BESS isn’t ready to run a race but she is doing great.

This past Friday night, at the Opry, our drummer, MATT REED, sang LOOK AT US for GUY & PHYLLIS LANGFORD. They have been married for 68 years. Isn’t that wonderful especially in today’s world?

This coming Friday night, July 30th, ROBYN MUNDY is going to be with us. ROBYN used to sing with us many years ago. Guess how old she is? 24 Years old! ROBYN is a dynamic singer/yodeler. This is going to be a fabulous show. STACEY STARK and SCOTT HURLEY are also going to be on this show.

We had a visiting keyboard player on our Opry show on Friday, July 16th. NORM CASS, our lead guitar player, came up to me and said that he was really a great person to work with.

Therefore, this past weekend, July 23rd, we had him come back. Everyone was telling me how much he added musically to the show. JADAN will also be with us this coming Opry show on Friday, July 30th.

We are putting our heads together with LYNN BROWN and trying to come up with a Sunday in late Aug. or early Sept. when we will be having TONY BOOTH in concert. Stay tuned for more details……………

Since we are now in the HOT! Time of the year, we have fully stocked up with all sorts of ice cream. The one frozen item we forgot about was popsicles. Give me some suggestions as to what kind of flavor to get……………………………………………..

On Friday, Aug. 6th, LARRY BOOTH and his wife, ROBIN will be with us. LARRY used to play bass with us before they moved to Oklahoma. It will be so good to see them again. LARRY is also TONY’s brother. Let’s all turn out and show LARRY & ROBIN just how much we have missed them.

I just heard from MARIETTE BENDA. She just got out of the hospital. She had a bad case of poison and extreme low blood pressure. We are used to seeing her smiling face sitting in the audience at the Opry, so when I didn’t see her for several weeks, I just knew something was wrong.

I am now alternating between KIM and RHONDA, our backup singers, and giving each one of them a new song per week. This coming week, it will be KIM’s turn.

If any of you have any suggestions as to what new songs to give them, just let me know.

GENE just told me that starting this Friday, July 30th, we are going to start selling chili pie again.. We used to and then stopped. But so many people requested that we start up again, so we will as of this Friday.

We have been thinking about something and I want to get your opinion on this – what do you think of having a Sunday Show with just MOSES RANGEL?
